The College is a coeducational school of the Uniting Church and has enriched the lives of thousands of young people, since it opened on 18 January 1866 as a boy’s boarding school. In its 138-year history, it has seen the influence of 14 principals, each of whom has in turn, enriched the life of the College. From a traditional boys school with the focus on one campus, it has now grown into a multi-campus College, with a strong emphasis on pastoral care, learning and coeducation and offering students from diverse backgrounds and faiths, a rich variety of learning opportunities The liberal curriculum offers course opportunities in Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO, Primary Years and Diploma Programmes), and Vocational Education & Training (VET) The College has an open entry policy, which means that there are no entrance examinations or particular entrance requirements and it welcomes students from all backgrounds, countries and cultures. Many international students study at Wesley because of its excellent educational reputation The College has a long history of social service and students participate in a variety of programs, which give service to the community, either through fund raising or active community service participation A variety of programs are in place to support all students, such as ones for gifted and talented students, remediation, integration and English as Second Language (ESL) programs A wide range of cocurricular programs support students learning. Wesley has a well-deserved reputation for its performing and visual arts programs and music and drama play a large part in many students’ lives. Sport is also an important part of its tradition and students are able to participate in a wide variety of programs from rowing to soccer, water polo to gymnastics. Sport is compulsory for all students from Year 7 through to Year 12. A wide-range of international cultural exchanges and partnerships with other schools is available for students who are interested in exploring these international connections

What is the IB?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The IB offers high quality programmes of international education to a worldwide community of schools.

The three IB programmes for students aged 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. There are approximately one million IB students at over three thousand schools in more than 140 countries.
