MLC School, located eleven kilometres from Sydney’s CBD, is a Prekindergarten to Year 12 Uniting Church School with a current enrolment of 1300 girls. Established in 1886, the School has a strong tradition of excellence. MLC is a school of broad ranging opportunity and diversity and boasts an enviable record of providing the best learning environment for girls by meeting the needs of the individual and supporting each girl's potential to make a positive contribution to our society. MLC School has implemented its education program, Transforming Learning, with a focus on flexible learning and innovation marking a shift in educational emphasis from teaching a class to helping each student become as effective a learner as possible. Named in The Australian in 2001 as one of Australia’s top three schools, for sustained excellence over a wide range of student endeavours, MLC has, in recent years, seen 50% of its students perform in the top 10% of the State of NSW. Differentiation, innovation and a commitment to choice sees the International Baccalaureate Diploma offered at MLC as an alternative matriculation qualification in Years 11 & 12. Facilities for the best possible teaching and learning environment include a state of the art new Junior School; an Independent Learning Centre with library, specialist seminar and computer rooms; drama theatre; music centre with composition laboratory and orchestral rehearsal auditorium; new Aquatic Centre with 50metre heated indoor swimming pool configured to include an international water polo field, 1 and 3metre diving boards; Olympic sized turf hockey field; gymnasium; tennis, netball and basketball courts and cricket nets. As part of MLC’s commitment to Transforming Learning the School is airport wireless networked for student laptop computers from Years 5-12 enabling the girls to access the internet, the School’s intranet and email from anywhere in the School.

What is the IB?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The IB offers high quality programmes of international education to a worldwide community of schools.

The three IB programmes for students aged 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. There are approximately one million IB students at over three thousand schools in more than 140 countries.
